American Velvet: A Tribute to The Velvet Underground
A 13 track adult alternative album (49m 45s) — released June 4th 2012 on Darla
This Velvet Underground Tribute features new recordings of Velvet songs by key members of the American Punk, New Wave, and Alternative Rock scenes.
From Go-Go Jane Wiedlin's high energy version of "Foggy Notion" to Punk Pioneer Jack Grisham's pointed rendition of "Coney Island Steeple Chase," this album delivers. The liner notes were penned by Modern Lover Jonathan Richman, witness to over 100 of The Velvets' performances, who contributes a recording of his original song, "Velvet Underground." Also included on the album is an inspiring interpretation of "Run Run Run" by Hunt Sales of Tin Machine and Iggy Pop fame. Primary member of "Let's Active" and REM-producer Mitch Easter further contributes with "The Black Angel's Death Song," a raucous cacophony capturing the essence of Velvet sentiment. Finally, seminal New Wave group 20-20 ("Yellow Pills") reunited especially to cut "I Can't Stand It" for the album.
This album is a must have for every Velvet Underground fan!
